S.C. considers breaks for nuclear power plants (Charlotte)
Duke Energy Carolinas and other nuclear power providers may soon find it easier to qualify for significant property tax breaks in South Carolina.
Pending S.C. legislation would benefit Duke’s proposed William States Lee Nuclear Station near Gaffney and the V.C. Summer plant Scana Corp. and Santee Cooper are building near Jenkinsville.
In regulatory filings last week, Duke said it had spent $172 million on pre-construction planning and other activities for the Lee project through the end of last year. To date, regulators in the Carolinas have authorized the company to spend up to $230 million on those items.
