Akeena goes national with retail-ready solar panels (Silicon Valley)

A fledgling program to sell Akeena Solar Inc.’s products and services through selected Lowe’s stores in California will be launched throughout North America sometime this year.

Since December, the Los Gatos-based solar power company’s Anadalay AC solar panels and installation services have been available at 21 of 107 Lowe’s stores in California. In those stores, the home improvement retailer has built “Energy Centers” to offer products and services that help customers measure, reduce and generate energy in their homes or businesses.

It’s the first time anywhere consumers and contractors have been able to buy solar panels off the shelf in a retail store.
