CenterPoint Energy lands $200M stimulus grant (Houston)

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a CenterPoint Energy Inc. subsidiary a $200 million stimulus grant that will fund the company’s development of the first phase of an intelligent grid.

The award, which went to CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric LLC, will also go toward the deployment of the company’s advanced metering system.

The agreement marks the end of negotiations that began last fall after Houston-based CenterPoint (NYSE:CNP) was named one of six utilities to receive the maximum smart grid grant by the DOE under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act.
