Colorado to raise renewable energy standard

Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter on Monday signed a new law calling for the state’s largest utilities to get 30 percent of their power from renewable-energy sources by 2020 — one of the highest standards in the nation.

Previously, the state’s goal was 20 percent by 2020.

The measure will create thousands of new jobs and lead to 100,000 solar rooftops in Colorado over the next decade, according to Ritter.

“Today we continue to chart a new course for Colorado’s New Energy Economy and America’s clean energy economy,” Ritter said in a statement. “Colorado is giving every state and the entire nation a template for tomorrow. This is a game-changer. We are transforming the future of Colorado and our country.”
