Former Sprint chief starts cell phone recycling firm (Kansas City)

Former Sprint Communications Inc. President Ron LeMay has co-founded a company that tries to reduce the number of old cell phones ending up in landfills.

LeMay and former RadioShack Corp. CEO David Edmondson unveiled their new company, eRecyclingCorps, on Tuesday at the CTIA Wireless conference being held this week in Las Vegas.

The Dallas-based company helps cellular partners create incentives for customers to trade in their old wireless devices when buying new ones. It then helps the carriers either recycle the devices or resell them to secondary markets.

Sprint, now Sprint Nextel Corp., uses the service with 1,100 company-owned stores and 1,400 resellers, giving customers account credits for exchanging eligible devices.
