‘Green’ jobs in Washington up by a third (Seattle)
According to state statistics, the number of “green” jobs in Washington state’s private sector grew to about 62,000 last year from slightly more than 47,000 a year earlier.
Washington officials describe a “green” job as “one in which workers are helping to increase energy efficiency, produce renewable energy, or prevent, reduce or clean up pollution.”
The total number of “green” jobs in the state in 2009 (including public sector jobs, which weren’t counted in 2008) was 99,319, about 3.3 percent of total employment covered by unemployment insurance in Washington state.
