SRI wins $4.5M carbon capture study contract (San Francisco)
SRI International won a $4.5 million Department of Energy contract to study ways to cut pollution at power plants.
The Menlo Park nonprofit research institute will spend the money studying carbon dioxide capture using an ammonium carbonate-ammonium bicarbonate, or AC-ABC, method. It’s meant to be used at gasification plants, which use new technology to convert coal to gasses before burning.
This project is set to be done in 2012.
