Greenhouse gas law requires polluters to track, report emissions (Louisville)
In what many believe is a precursor to new federal regulations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is requiring the country’s largest producers of greenhouse gases to report their emissions.
That includes suppliers of fossil fuels or industrial greenhouse gases, makers of autos and engines, and facilities that emit more than 25,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases annually.
In Jefferson County, that is expected to include at least 52 facilities that have large boilers or already have air pollution permits, or both, said Matt Stull, public information supervisor for the Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District.
Affected facilities would include Rubbertown factories such as the E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. plant, Ford Motor Co.’s local assembly plants and Waste Management’s Outer Loop Recycling and Disposal landfill.
