Hilton reduced energy use by 5% (Memphis)

Hilton Worldwide has unveiled its new proprietary system to calculate and analyze the environmental impact of various operations at its properties.

Hilton used the system, called LightStay, at a portion of its properties throughout 2009. LightStay calculates energy and water use along with waste and carbon outputs associated with operations and service. It includes a feature that measures the environmental impact of meetings or conferences held at Hilton properties.

Hilton reports the system helped 1,300 of its properties across the world reduce energy by 5 percent, carbon output by 6 percent, waste output by 10 percent and water use by 2.4 percent in 2009. The company plans to integrate the system into all of its 3,500 properties around the world by Dec. 31, 2011.
