PG&E gets approval for Bloom fuel cell (San Francisco)

Pacific Gas & Electric Company can move forward with plans to install three utility owned fuel cells – two provided by FuelCell Energy of Danbury, Conn., and one from San Jose-based Bloom Energy.

The California Public Utilities Commission today authorized the request to install the ratepayer-funded fuel cells, which will total some $20.3 million plus $9 million in operations and maintenance costs for their estimated 10-year life span.

PG&E plans to install three fuel cells that will generate 3 megawatts of electricity at California State University East Bay and San Francisco State University.

Fuel cells combine fuel and oxygen to produce electricity, water and heat.
