QM Power moves to Kansas City, plans to hire 100
A Boston-based company has moved its headquarters to Kansas City to further develop and commercialize its technology for making motors and generators more efficient.
QM Power Inc. has used lab space in Greenwood for the past few years but this week moved into a University of Missouri-Kansas City-owned building, CEO PJ Piper said.
Piper said the company is starting with six employees but will reach 20 by the end of the year and 100 in three years, depending on the success of its technology.
QM Power specializes in electric motors, generators and actuators. It has received numerous federal contracts, including $458,194 last month from the National Science Foundation for motors to go into electric vehicles and air-handling systems.
