Xcel buys 201-megawatt wind farm in Minnesota
Xcel Energy Inc. has bought a 201-megawatt wind project in southwest Minnesota's Nobles County from enXco.
Minneapolis' Xcel (NYSE: XEL) and Escondido, Calif.-based enXco said ownership of the wind farm has been transferred to Northern States Power Co., an Xcel business unit. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission had approved the project in May 2009.
The wind farm is scheduled to be operational by 2011. Its 134 General Electric 1.5 megawatt turbines will generate enough power for an estimated 50,000 homes.
EnXco Midwest Region Vice President of Development Steve Peluso said in a statement that the construction project will generate 150 jobs in the coming months.
