Farmers market in Albuquerque goes solar
The Downtown Growers’ Market is going solar.
When the 2010 market opens June 5 in Albuquerque’s Robinson Park, all the vendors’ power needs will be supplied by the sun, making the market one of the first solar-powered farmers’ markets in the country, said the Downtown Action Team.
DAT said the partnership between the growers’ market and CleanSwitch, a solar design and installation company, will become a model for markets nationwide.
DAT has worked with the University of New Mexico’s sustainable studies director, Bruce Milne, and student Renn Halsted to develop the program. CleanSwitch saw an opportunity to educate the public about solar power.
