PG&E apologizes again (San Francisco)
PG&E apologized today for the second time in a week to Marin customers, this time for "mistakenly" sending a letter to 6,000 customers that included information on how to opt out of Marin's independent power program and rejoin PG&E.
The letter reminded Marin customers that "As a new electricity supplier, Marin Energy Authority has not previously engaged in buying and selling electricity and PG&E provides no guarantee of the CCA's financial or operational capability."
The letter also provided a website Marin customers could visit to opt out of Marin's program.
It was sent to every customer who will automatically be opted in to the Marin program. It was signed by Thomas Varghese, manager of ESP Services for Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
In a press release issued today, Helen Burt, PG&E senior vice president and chief customer officer, said the letter should not have been sent out.
"We apologize to every customer who received this letter. It should have never been sent out," said Burt. "We are now looking into how this happened and how to prevent it from happening again in the future. We also reaffirm our commitment to follow the guidance provided by the CPUC regarding how we communicate with our customers in Marin County."
