Procter & Gamble to rate ‘supplier environmental sustainability’ (Cincinnati)

Procter & Gamble Co. on Wednesday introduced its “Supplier Environmental Sustainability Scorecard,” which it will use to rate its suppliers on their “green” efforts.

The company said in a news release that it hopes the scorecard, which encourages continuous improvement by suppliers, will become an industry standard.

“We will grow P&G’s business by touching and improving more consumers’ lives in more parts of the world – more completely,” said Bob McDonald, chairman, president and CEO, in a news release. “To accomplish this, we must continually innovate and grow responsibly and sustainably.”

The scorecard was developed over 18 months by a board that included more than 20 representatives from P&G's primary suppliers. It will measure and rate energy use, water use, waste disposal and greenhouse gas emissions on a year-to-year basis.
