SolarCity on acquisition and hiring spree (San Francisco)
SolarCity is without a doubt a startup success story.
The company has grown from two employees — brothers Lyndon and Peter Rive — in 2006 to more than 630 today, which includes employees from a recent acquisition. It has installed solar panels on 7,500 rooftops. And it’s taking on new lines of business with the same verve it used to become a dominant force in solar in five states so far.
Foster City-based SolarCity acquired energy efficiency contractor Building Solutions earlier this month and it aims to offer energy efficiency improvements in conjunction with solar installations within the next year. Terms of that deal were not disclosed.
SolarCity said this allows it to address customers’ use of natural gas as well as electricity. It should also open up new customers for SolarCity since before it had to turn away those who couldn’t get solar for any number of reasons, from expense to roof shading.
