Ze-gen plans waste-to-power plant (Boston)
Ze-gen Inc. is seeking to build its first full-scale waste-to-energy plant in Attleboro, which could produce 7 megawatts of electricity, according to the company.
"This is an opportunity to demonstrate our technology at a larger scale," said Gideon Gradman, vice president of corporate development for Ze-gen.
The Boston-based company has operated a demonstration waste-gasification plant in New Bedford since 2007.
The $15 million Attleboro plant could convert approximately 44,000 tons of waste material into gas per year, according to a filing with the Attleboro Planning Department. The gas would then be burned to produce electricity for use by commercial tenants on the site.
Gradman said Ze-gen sees the project as “an opportunity to really create what will be the first green industrial park in Massachusetts.” Excess power could also possibly be sold to the grid, according to the filing.
