Amyris gets into renewable cosmetics (San Francisco)
Amyris Inc. said today it will supply its engineered yeast to French cosmetic ingredients manufacturer Soliance to make renewable cosmetic ingredients.
Amyris is a biotechnology company based in Emeryville that uses yeast to convert sugar into transportation fuels and other products.
With the new partnership, Amyris’ technology will be used to produce squalane, a moisturizer and emollient that Soliance plans to sell to cosmetics manufacturers.
Many biofuels companies are exploring other markets – like renewable chemicals, cosmetics and even food — to supplement their revenue while working to commercialize biofuels.
