Massachusetts distributing $4M for solar

Some 46 solar power projects around Massachusetts will get funding help through $4 million in federal stimulus grants, state officials announced Tuesday.

It will be the second round of awards under the Commonwealth Solar Stimulus program, and will assist with the installation of 3.8 megawatts of solar power, officials said.

The largest award, $162,320, will help to pay for a nearly 200-kilowatt installation in Middleborough. Two projects in Boston will also generate nearly 200-kilowatts of power each.

The installations will be done by a variety of firms, which had applied to take part in the program, said a spokesman for the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. The program is administered by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

The first round of Commonwealth Solar Stimulus grants, announced in April, provided $4 million in rebates to 56 solar projects, for a total of 4 megawatts of solar power.
