TXU Energy signs $30M iThermostat deal (Dallas)
TXU Energy has signed a supplier deal with Georgia-based Comverge Inc. to supply 100,000 iThermostat devices to homes and businesses in Texas electric markets by 2010.
The contract is valued at $30 million, Comverge announced Thursday.
The iThermostat allows users to remotely check and adjust thermostat settings. TXU has about 20,000 iThermostats and similar devices already in place, the company said.
TXU charges residential customers $75 to install an iThermostat. Businesses and new residential customers can get different terms when they sign new electricity contracts with TXU, a company spokesman said.
The company also has a program to allow businesses to use iThermostats remotely monitor power use across multiple locations.
Retail electric company TXU Energy pledged in 2007 to invest $100 million in energy efficiency products and tools to help power users better manage and reduce their power consumption.
