BioStar Systems gets $3M for biogas projects

Alternative energy company BioStar Systems LLC has received more than $3 million in state grants for two projects aimed at converting biological gases into energy.

The Kansas City-based company said Monday that it received a $2.6 million grant from the California Energy Commission to develop a production plant in Sonoma County that turns methane into transportation fuel. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources awarded the company $450,000 to install anaerobic digesters at Johnson County Egg Farm, which is based in Knob Noster, Mo. The digesters would convert animal waste into biogas. That’s one of five bioenergy projects being paid for with federal stimulus money in Missouri.

“We are pleased to have two state authorities validate two different BioStar projects and provide financial assistance moving them forward,” BioStar CEO Bill Love said in the release announcing the grants.
