Coulomb Technologies raises $15M (Austin)

Coulomb Technologies Inc., which is installing electric car charging stations across the country, said Wednesday it raised $15 million in a third round of funding.

The Campbell, Calif.-based company announced in June plans to install more than $37 million worth in electric car stations in nine cities, including Austin, Texas. The company is using the investor funds for its ChargePoint Network and to drive sales and boost customer support, according to officials.

Host cities for the national installation project were chosen with the project's auto manufacturing partners — Ford, Chevrolet and Smart USA — which picked regions where electric cars are rolling out. About $15 million in the program came from the American Recover and Reinvestment Act.

Coulomb Technologies announced in July that it won a $3.4 million grant from the California Energy Commission to install charging stations across the state.
