High-speed rail will create 57,000 Midwest jobs

A high-speed rail network in the Midwest will create 57,000 permanent jobs, according to a new study that’s bullish about rail’s prospects in the region.

The report — released Monday by WISPIRG (Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group), a Madison-based public interest advocacy group that supports high-speed rail — also says the 10-year construction of such a network would support 15,200 jobs. The eight-state Midwest region includes Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
