Rendell announces $20.5 million for 40 innovative energy projects (Pittsburgh)
A number of Pittsburgh-area projects are included in a $20.5 million innovative energy plan announced by Gov. Ed Rendell.
Rendell said the the money, from state and federal investments, will go to 40 different projects and lead to the creation of 1,400 jobs in the clean energy industry.
"A few years ago, projects like these existed only in theory," Rendell said in a written statement. "Today, they are a reality."
He said the projects will reduce carbon emissions by 9 million tons — the equivalent of removing 1.5 million cars from the road for one year.
The state investment, provided through the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority, will leverage more than $211 million in private funds.
