Sharp Electronics inks huge solar deal (San Francisco)
Sharp Electronics Corp. made a deal to supply solar modules to a big project near Avenal.
Osaka-based Sharp Corp. said last week it would pay $305 million for San Francisco’s Recurrent Energy, which develops solar projects.
This 58 megawatt project is to be built on three bits of agricultural land near Avenal (in Kings County in the Central Valley). The project’s developer is Eurus Energy, which owns it along with NRG Solar, a unit of NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG).
Ryan Co., owned by Quanta Services (NYSE: PWR) is the engineer and builder on the project.
Sharp will sell thin film solar modules to the project.
When finished in the middle of next year, the project should create enough power for about 36,000 homes.
Construction is starting right away on two of the three sections, named Sun City and Sand Drag.
