Allegany wind project moving slowly

Plans by EverPower Renewables Inc. to erect 29 wind-powered turbines in the Town of Allegany — a $118 million project — have moved one step closer.

The County of Cattaraugus Industrial Development Agency agreed to accept an incentive package application from EverPower, but it will not act on the paperwork until several other hurdles are cleared including a complete environmental review and a sign of from the Town of Allegany. The turbines are proposed for a large swath of vacant land along Chipmunk Road.

The New York City-based EverPower and the Town of Allegany have been working on the project for the past few years.

“We are not taking any official action until the town clears the project,” said Corey Wiktor, County of Cattaraugus Industrial Development Agency executive director. “We’re just waiting for them to finish everything that needs to be completed.”
