Google expands electric car perks

How many Google Inc. employees can you fit into an electric Chevy Volt?

Workers at the search giant's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters may get a chance to find out after the company announced that it has added 30 Volts and Nissan Leafs to its "Gfleet" of electric cars that employees can use for business.

It has also expanded the number of plug-in recharging stations at the Googleplex, which are provided by Coulomb Technologies Inc. of Campbell. Employees now have 200 recharging stations and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) said it plans another 250 in the future.

The company announced the move on its official blog on Thursday and provided a YouTube video as well.

"Overall, our goal is to electrify 5 percent of our parking spaces—all over campus and free of charge (pun intended) to Googlers," the company said on its blog.
