Arizona's Buckeye Union High School District is dedicating three solar systems today at its high schools that will put out a combined 4.3 megawatts of power.

That will be enough to give Buckeye Union and Youngker high schools in Buckeye and Estrella Foothills High School in Goodyear about 70 percent of their power.

“We’re pleased to celebrate the addition of three solar installations in our school district,” said Dr. Beverly Hurley, superintendent of Buckeye Union High School District. “This addition will play an important role in meeting the district’s electricity needs and will serve as an educational tool for our students to learn about solar energy production.”

The systems are owned by Baltimore-based Constellation Energy Group (NYSE: GEC), which is selling the power to the district on a 25-year purchase agreement. The project was built by Core Construction, was developed by GV Enterprises and REgeneration Finance and received incentives through Arizona Public Service Co.’s renewable program.
