DOE to dole out $20M for energy storage research
The U.S. Department of Energy has launched an energy innovation hub designed to spur new battery and energy storage research, and it is accepting applications to fund research opportunities.
According to the energy department, the hub will have funds of up to $120 million available over five years. In 2012, it will have funds of up to $20 million.
The funds will be given to organizations, such as universities, nonprofits and private firms, that are interested in advancing energy storage and battery technology and improving the reliability and efficiency of the electrical grid.
All organizations applying for funds must submit letters of intent to apply by March 1.
