Sacramento area adds three solar farms
San Francisco-based Recurrent Energy Inc. announced that three of its solar photovoltaic projects in Sacramento County have achieved commercial operation.
The solar farms are now delivering 50 megawatts of clean electricity to Sacramento Municipal Utility District under a 20-year feed-in tariff.
“The completion of these projects is the culmination of strong renewable energy policy and the dedicated work of all the teams involved,” Arno Harris, chief executive officer of Recurrent Energy, said in a news release. “The projects demonstrate our expertise in developing flexible utility-scale solutions in a short period of time, and help us achieve the end goal of a clean energy future.”
The projects, near Galt, Elk Grove and Sloughhouse, are expected to generate about 90 million kilowatt-hours in their first year of operation. That’s the equivalent of the electricity consumption of more than 7,000 average U.S. homes.
The three projects were the first to awarded under SMUD’s feed-in tariff program, introduced in January 2010. A fourth Recurrent project is under construction and is expected begin operating commercially later this year.
