Telsa will start delivering its Model S sedans in June.

Tesla Motors Inc. said it will begin delivering the all-electric Model S sedan June 22 ahead of schedule. And, in typical Tesla style, it will celebrate the with a big party for staff and a live telecast its first deliveries. Tesla shares were trading up $2 - or about 7 percent - on the news.

Customers have been lining up to buy the Model S, and 6,500 placed $5,000 deposits on the 7-seater car — a sell-out for this year. This is the first production car built at Tesla's Fremont factory, site of the former NUMMI automotive plant, and just the second car being released by the all-electric vehicle maker after the high-performance Roadster sports car.

The $49,900 Model S can travel 160 miles per charge on the lowest-cost battery Tesla offers. Customers can choose a 230-mile battery for $10,000 more or a $69,900 option 85 kwh battery.

A limited edition, Signature Sport Model S will run you $97,900. The performance line has more power, accelerating from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds compared to 5.6 seconds for the standard Model S. And the performance line has additional features including "sport-tuned traction control" and performance wheels and tires and interior and exterior carbon fiber accents. Tesla's signature line features optional signature red paint, white leather interior and perforated leather interior. See all the options here.
