Turbine maker ZF Wind adding jobs in Georgia

Wind turbine gearbox manufacturer ZF Wind Power plans to add more than 100 jobs at its Gainesville, Ga., plant.

The job growth is needed to meet a surge in demand for wind turbines.

The Southeast is home to more than 90 manufacturing plants that are part of wind power’s expanding U.S. supply chain.

ZF Wind, a division of ZF Industries, opened the 250,000 square foot plant September.

At the $98 million plant, workers produce custom-built gearboxes for the wind power industry. The plant employs 150 people, including more than 60 highly skilled manufacturing technicians.

ZF Industries, with North American headquarters in Northville, Mich., employs about 250 in Gainesville, where it also builds transmissions and axles for construction equipment and axle drives for cars and SUVs.
