First Solar gets green light for plant from Los Angeles County
First Solar Inc. has received approval from Los Angeles County to move forward with construction on a solar power plant that had been hung up on permitting.
Officials with Tempe, Ariz.-based First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR) said the approval will allow the company to being installing panels at the 230-megwatt Antelope Valley power station.
Construction had come to a stop, and First Solar had furloughed some of its workforce, as the two sides worked out a conflict on building and electrical codes on the project.
“We’re pleased to see the project back on track,” said Dennis Hunter, deputy director of the Los Angeles County of Public Works, the agency responsible for the permitting. “Following our discussions, we are now confident in First Solar’s ability to meet our health and safety requirements.”
First Solar officials said they have worked with the county officials as this is the first utility-scale photovoltaic power plant in the county.
