Reliant Energy Retail Holdings LLC recently became the first electricity provider to partner with Palo Alto, Calif.-based Nest, a new technology company that sells the Nest Learning Thermostat, a thermostat that automatically adjusts to a customer’s lifestyle.

Reliant, a Houston-based electricity and energy solutions provider that is a part of New Jersey-based NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG), will feature the Nest Learning Thermostat as part of its Reliant Learn & Conserve Plan, a 24-month fixed electricity plan.

The Nest thermostat automatically adjusts to customers’ lifestyles by allowing them to create personalized schedules based on their temperature-change history.

“While only about 10 percent of programmable thermostats are ever actually programmed, 99 percent of installed Nest Learning Thermostats are running a schedule that reflects the owners’ lives. We’re excited to be working with Nest to give customers a better way to control their electricity use,” Elizabeth Killinger, Reliant’s senior vice president of residential and operations, said in a statement.
