VF Outdoor opens Bay Area sustainable campus
VF Outdoor provides a new, green home for brands including Portland-born Lucy, North Face and JanSport.
Tuesday seemed like the first day of school at VF Outdoor’s new headquarters in Alameda, which has brought three of the company’s leading lifestyle apparel brands – the North Face, JanSport and Lucy – under one roof.
Throughout the day, the company’s predominantly young, casually dressed employees checked out the facilities and settled into their desks on the new campus. Some product developers admired the unobstructed views of the San Francisco Bay from their office chairs, while others tested new camping equipment on the green lawn of the recently completed outdoor workspace.
With a fully equipped fitness center, an outdoor training area, an organic garden and nearly 100 percent of electricity generated by solar- and wind-powered features, the new site is evidence of VF’s commitment to the outdoors.
“These are brands that have a deep passion for the outdoors -- not only to play in it, but to preserve it,” said Steve Rendle, group president of Outdoor & Action Sports Americas and vice president VF Corp., the group’s parent company. “And we wanted this campus to really speak to that.”
The 14-acre waterfront campus in Alameda’ Harbor Bay Business Park includes 160,000 square feet of build-to-suit office space in four buildings surrounded by green spaces and several outdoor activity areas. There's also access to running trails and public transportation, including ferry services to San Francisco for about one third of the 470 employees that live in the city.
