Electric car promotion aims to plant Texas trees
A test drive of a Nissan Leaf will trigger a donation to the Texas Tree Foundation.
Record droughts and heavy tornado activity have wiped out more than 500 million trees across Texas, or about 10 percent of the state’s total, according to the Texas Forest Service.
In response, eVgo, a subsidiary of Princeton, N.J.-based NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG), has launched a program to help raise funds to plant and maintain trees in Texas. By partnering with auto dealerships and tree planting organizations, eVgo will seek funds to help replenish trees across the state. Under the program, everytime someone test drives a 100 percent electric Mitsubishi “i” or Nissan LEAF, the dealership will donate $25 to the Texas Tree Foundation.
Throughout the program, EVs for Trees test drive vouchers will be available for download online at www.EVsforTrees.com.
