Getaround raises $13.9 million
Getaround, which formally launched its Portland service in February, closed on $13.9 million.
Getaround, an online peer-to-peer car sharing service, raised a $13.9 million Series A financing round led by Menlo Ventures with participation from new Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, A-Grade Investments and Google Inc. Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt's Innovation Endeavors and others.
San Francisco-based Getaround launched in early 2011 and has since expanded service to Austin, San Diego and Portland, where the company won a $1.7 million federal grant to study the impact of peer-to-peer car sharing.
Other investors included HotelTonight CEO Sam Shank, Yammer co-founder David Sacks and Saba CEO Bobby Yazdani.
