Dallas firm uses solar to power West Texas oil rigs

The sun can be harsh in West Texas but one Dallas entrepreneur is putting those rays to work powering oil wells.
Mark Smith has developed an off-the-grid solar power generator that provides industrial-strength power 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The president and founder of Dallas-based Seldon Energy said this technology, which is still in the pilot phase, in many cases can replace more costly and unreliable diesel or natural gas powered engines at remote locations where electric utility service is unavailable.
